Course Description:

Parenting in Islam is a sacred trust (Amanah) that extends beyond physical care to the spiritual and moral formation of the next generation. Sacred Bonds: The Parent-Child Journey offers a holistic approach to parenting rooted in the Islamic tradition, guiding participants to nurture their children’s heart, mind and soul to raise confident, mindful and resilient children that bridge classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary child development and conscious parenting approaches. Participants will learn practical tools that are needed to understand their role as parents, the rights of their children and to navigate modern challenges to foster moral and ethical development in their children.

By the end of the course, they will be able to articulate a personal parenting philosophy, apply positive disciplining strategies and design age-appropriate spiritual practices that nurture love for Allah without compulsion. Through reflective practice, class exercises and peer collaboration, parents will be equipped with the capacity to navigate their parent-child journey confidently. The course culminates in a personalised action plan that helps them operationalise Islamic values in daily life. Whether parents are seeking to break intergenerational cycles or deepen their existing practices, this course offers a spiritually grounded roadmap to raise children who are emotionally balanced, morally conscious and connected to their Divine purpose.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to articulate the theological foundations of parenting as Amanah (Divine trust) and Khilafah (stewardship) within an Islamic worldview.
Students will be able to differentiate and interrelate the four key principles of Islamic Parenting: Tarbiyah (nurturing and education), Ta’dib (moral upbringing), Ta’lim (instruction and knowledge), and Islah (rectification and reform).
  2. Students will be able to cultivate taqwa-centred intentionality in daily parenting interactions to transform daily tasks into acts of worship and design age-appropriate spiritual practices to nurture holistic character development in their children.
  3. Students will be able to develop emotional resilience through practices of muhasaba and muraqaba and internalise the Prophetic model of mercy as the primary lens for correction, connection and conflict resolution.
