This course is a trip into the “Book of Ruh” where we escort the human soul on its journey from start to finish in both the material world and the Hereafter. The course will discuss the spirits of both the living and the dead and the relationship between them. Emphasis will be placed on the spirit of the dead and the questions and controversies that surround its departure, the grave, the Barzakh, and what the living should (and should not) do in regard to their own souls and to the souls of others.
The unique book of Ibn al-Qayyim is unparalleled in its coverage of the topic while firmly adhering to the Quran, Hadith and the interpretations of the virtuous salaf.
Live attendance is recommended whenever possible for the best learning experience. Recordings of the sessions will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until September 5th, 2025.
To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: weekly assignments or reflections, a term paper, project, or midterm, one or more quizzes, and/or a final exam.
