Course Description:

Tajwid Part 2 is an advanced course designed to deepen your mastery of the rules of tajwid and the rhythm of Quranic recitation. Building on the foundational concepts from Tajwid Part 1, students will engage in a comprehensive study of tajwid rules, focusing on the proper pronunciation and application while reciting Juzʾ Tabārak. Weekly online sessions with an experienced instructor will cover advanced tajwid concepts, while small group recitation classes provide hands-on practice.

By the end of the course, students will confidently read Juzʾ Tabārak, applying all tajwid rules and achieving precise Quranic pronunciation.

Course Prerequisites:

  • Students should be women above the age of 17.
  • Successful completion of TAJ 201*
  • ARL 121: Arabic Novice Middle or equivalent

*Starred items may be waived through tajwid assessment.

Course Requirements: 

Live attendance is recommended for the live class whenever possible for the best learning experience. Live attendance is mandatory for recitation sessions. Recordings of the live class will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Recitation sessions are not recorded. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until May 31st, 2026

Please note that daylight saving time will begin in the United States on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour earlier starting March 8.

To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, attend practice recitation sessions live, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: a weekly reading log, a midterm, and/or a final exam.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance.
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation.
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.

  1. Excellence in the Science of Tajwīd by Ghada Salahi al-Asbahi
  2. A medium to large sized Holy Quran in Arabic for the Recitation portion of the course, a color-coded Tajwīd Mushaf is recommended in this stage of tajwīd learning.

Students are responsible for ordering their textbooks before the start of class. Ribaat textbooks are available to enrolled students at a discounted rate through Rabata Bookshop. Once enrolled, students will have access to the discount code through the course forum.
