This is a study of the science of tajwīd accompanied by an instructor-led recitation of Juzʾ ʿAmmā. This is a two-part course:
1. Students will gain an understanding of introductory tajwīd concepts (including points of articulation–makhārij–and letter attributes–ṣifāt) during weekly online sessions with the instructor.
2. Students will work with a recitation teacher in small groups during two additional weekly sessions in which they will practice the theory learned in class. This part of the course will be complete when the student has demonstrated the ability to read Juzʾ ʿAmma and pronounce each letter correctly.
*Starred items may be waived through tajwid assessment.
New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program are required to complete an assessment. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Please click here to enroll:
Live attendance is recommended for the live class whenever possible for the best learning experience. Live attendance is mandatory for recitation sessions. Recordings of the live class will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Recitation sessions are not recorded. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until January 11th, 2026
Please note that daylight saving time will begin in the United States on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour later starting November 2.
To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, attend practice recitation sessions live, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: a weekly reading log, a midterm, and/or a final exam.
