Description:

This is an in-person weekend retreat held at Rabata Cultural Center in Minnesota, where students have the opportunity to recite to the Ribaat Tajwīd Committee in a face-to-face setting. This course fulfills one of the requirements for the ijāza (TAJ 501).

1. Students will attend a full weekend retreat to recite and receive feedback from the Ribaat Tajwīd Committee.
2. Students will participate in group reading sessions where students will recite from specific sections in the Quran to the committee and receive written feedback on their recitation, which will also be shared with each student’s tajwīd teacher.
3. Students will participate in tajwid commitee-led workshops exploring other topics related to Quran studies and the tajwid ijaza, including a history of the ijāza and the sanad, a workshop on waqf and ibtidaa and an introduction on al-mutashābihāt.
4. Students will receive credit for completing the course if the student satisfies the face-to-face reading requirement at a close to ijāza level of recitation, as determined by the Tajwīd Committee.
