Course Description:

This class takes students on an epistemological journey with the Quran. Its focus is on awakening the heart in effort to understand the Quran on a deeper, more personal level. There are many translations and commentaries on the Quran that are great resources to help us understand the general messages that Allah sent to humanity. This class will guide the students to internalize the meaning of the Quran using their heart and their own reflections as the primary resource. Upon the completion of the class, the students will be able to apply the skills they learned in contemplating the Quran to reevaluate their perceptions and perspectives of Allah’s creations and the role they play in maintaining the sanctity of each relationship, as well as learning to live as an embodiment of the Quran in their daily lives.

Qatadah reported: I said to our mother Aisha, “O Mother of the Believers, tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.” Aisha said, “Have you not read the Quran?” I said, “Of course.” Aisha said, “Verily, the character of the Prophet of Allah was the Quran.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 746.
