Course Description:

This is a practical course providing students the opportunity to:
1. Practice reading the Holy Quran
2. Master the skill of decoding Quranic text through the Baghdadi method
3. Learn the types of Arabic sounds and how to pronounce them correctly
4. Be introduced to the science of tajwīd

These skills will be put into practice in class with the instructor, and students will gain strategies to practice at home. By the end of this course, students should be able to recognize all of the Arabic letters and vowel sounds, to connect words, and to stop on them, all while improving their general reading speed and fluency. Students will meet 3 times a week, 75% of which will be reading practice from the primer or from short surahs (chapters) of the Quran. The other 25% will be learning new concepts.

Course Prerequisites:

  • Students should be women above the age of 17.
  • ARL 111: Arabic Novice Beginner

Tajwid Placement: 

New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program are required to complete an assessment. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Please click here to enroll:

Course Requirements: 

This course meets three times a week. This is a practical course so live attendance is required.

Please note that daylight savings time will begin in the United States on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour earlier starting March 9.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance.
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation.
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.
