An accelerated study of the science of tajwīd. In this course, students will gain an understanding of all tajwīd concepts (proper pronunciation of the Holy Quran, including points of articulation–makhārij–and letter attributes–ṣifāt) during weekly online sessions with the instructor. This course is a fast-paced review of tajwīd rules for those who have mastered the practice of recitation and need to learn or relearn the theory.
Students will also join a bi-weekly ḥalaqa in which they will work with a recitation teacher. Students will recite mudārasa style in small groups, preparing about a juzʾ per week starting from the beginning of the Quran.
*Starred items may be waived through tajwid assessment.
New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program are required to complete an assessment. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Please click here to enroll:
Live attendance is recommended for the live class whenever possible for the best learning experience. Live attendance is mandatory for recitation sessions. Recordings of the live class will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Recitation sessions are not recorded. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until January 11th, 2026
Please note that daylight saving time will begin in the United States on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour later starting November 2.
To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, attend practice sessions live, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: a weekly reading log, a midterm, and/or a final exam.
