Course Description:

This course guides students on a transformative journey of engaging with the Quran, focusing on awakening the heart and deepening personal understanding of the Quran’s timeless wisdom. Students will learn effective methods for Quran contemplation, including tafsir al-Qur’an bi-l-Qur’an (interpreting the Quran with the Quran), exploring the coherence and structural unity of the Quran (al-waḥda al-bināʾiyya li-l-Qurʾān), and thematic tafsir of selected suras. The curriculum emphasizes practical skills for reflecting on the Quran and applying its guidance to everyday relationships and challenges.

By the end of the course, students will increase their personal engagement with the Quran, develop a profound understanding of its teachings, and implement foundational principles for spiritual growth and navigating uncertainty, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Recordings:

Live attendance is recommended whenever possible for the best learning experience. Recordings of the sessions will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until January 10, 2025.

Course Prerequisites:

Required:
  • Students should be women above the age of 17.
Recommended:
  • ARL 121: Arabic Novice Middle or equivalent.

Course Requirements:

Students are expected to attend the online lectures, complete one or more weekly assignments, complete and present a project, and submit 4 short quizzes.

Daylight savings time will begin in the United States on Sunday, March 8, 2025. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour earlier starting March 8.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance.
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation.
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.
