Course Description:

Under the loving and uplifting guidance of a certified tajwid teacher, students will work together toward a complete reading of the Quran with correct tajwid in this halaqa-style course. Reciting half to one page at a time, students will build up fluency, receive real-time feedback, and feel confident in their ability to recite the Quran. With an emphasis on the practical application and refinement of tajwīd rules, this course is ideal for those seeking consistent practice, continued progress, and a supportive, blessed sisterhood dedicated to learning.

Course Prerequisites:

  • Students should be women above the age of 17.
  • TAJ 201: “Tajwīd Part 1: Letters & Phonetics”.
  • TAJ 202: “Tajwīd Part 2: Rules & the Rhythm of Recitation” or TAJ 203:  “Accelerated Tajwid Rules”.
  • ARL 131: Arabic Novice High or equivalent

*Starred items may be waived through tajwid assessment.

Tajwid Placement: 

New students in the Ribaat Tajwīd Program are required to complete an assessment. Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Please click here to enroll:

Course Requirements: 

This course meets two times a week. This is a practical course so live attendance is required for the recitation sessions.

Please note that daylight saving time will begin in the United States on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Depending on where you live, this may or may not affect your class timing. In countries where DST is not applied at all, class will be one hour later starting November 2.

To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, attend practice sessions live, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: a weekly reading log, a midterm, and/or a final exam.

This is an online course so students will need:

  • Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance.
  • Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation.
  • To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet/iPad with the Zoom app.

Text:

  • Medium to large sized Holy Quran in Arabic script.

Students are responsible for ordering their textbooks before the start of class. Ribaat textbooks are available to enrolled students at a discounted rate through Rabata Bookshop. Once enrolled, students will have access to the discount code through the course forum.
